Five more things

What I've been up to, in no particular order:
1. Reading Dead People's Music by Sarah Laing. That woman is a genius writer. She's so totally nailed teenage girl dialogue.
2. Stripping wallpaper. We're onto room number two of the Great House Renovation Project - Harper's room. Meanwhile, the garden is being overrun with convolvulus.
3. Running. I know - hilarious.
4. Knitting up a storm. I have four, yes, four garments on the go right now. They're all cardigans/jersies for babies yet to be born.
5. Thinking about the good folk in Greymouth.

Five good things

1. Being presented with a chocolate fish this morning by a rep from Snapper because it's Snapper's birthday and I had just used my card to get to work.
2. Harper sleeping last night for the first time in forever, and getting up at 7.30am with a sweet little 'darh' and a cuddle, not traumatised at all.
3. Friday, Friday, Friday.
4. Ticking off things from lists that have been really stressing me out, like getting a grant done for creche, getting a good night's sleep and getting some deadlines met.
5. Only two and a bit weeks till we go up north to Whangarei and possibly spend a coupla nights up there sans baby.

3. Finding shells in my handbag from the day we went up to Paraparaumu to look at houses and had a walk on the beach.
4. My standard issue Dompost Anthurium has two new blooms.
5. Finding people for stories who are enthusiastic, good talent and easy to work with.

1. it's a rare perfectly still day.
2. the massive ladder in the my tights is confined to the thigh area, making it undetectable under my knee length skirt.
3. travelling the world without leaving my chair via Google Maps, my new favourite thing.
4. the pies in the caff downstairs. Mmm. Mincey goodness.
5. rosemary essential oil - a coupla drops rubbed through my hair makes it feel almost human again.

Winners!

In a completely unscientific method of using the numbers from my phone number, Mrs Govier, Julie and Kathyo have won themselves a pair of Sparrow & Tui earrings. Please email me your addresses to kimberleyrothwell@yahoo.co.uk, and they will wing their way to you.
Beth Up North also wins a pair to be included in Rich's next missive, just because.
Thanks all for commenting - was a blast to see what's rocking your world right now.
Today, these things are rocking mine:
1. A good friend has found a woman she likes more than haloumi. It's very cute.
2. It's not stormy today, so we may venture out for a walk.
3. Harper has slept through the night for nine nights in a row and wakes at almost exactly the same time each morning. I can't believe how different I feel already.
4. I'm reading John Dos Passos' Manhattan Transfer, a book that I have owned since I was 22 but never read. It's really great.
5. A vase full of early cheer daffodils sitting in my lounge.

Five for Friday

1. Tiny was extremely rambunctious this morning, and I am wondering if I am going to have an advanced baby, because according to all the books and everything, I'm not meant to be able to feel Tiny for another two weeks. Perhaps it's not Tiny at all, but one of raft of mysterious poppings in my abdominal area that just happen to feel like miniature feet nudging against my organs.

2. Going out with the Postie tonight to see Eagle vs Shark. Like a date. It'll be the first Friday night I've been out after work in months. Then I will be going home to watch Project Runway and imagine that I will be in bed by 9pm. Rock on.

3. I'm waiting for my sister to call and tell me her and Sweeney bambini are downstairs in the cafe. He's going to accompany me to coffee with Sue who is my translator for a story I am doing about The Cult of the Amateur. I haven't seen Sweeney since before going to Noosa, and miss his nerdy laugh. For one of his birthdays, I'm going to get him a pocket protector.

4. My colleague Bess, the lifestyle section editor, gave me a lipstick that came in from some PR company the other day, and though the applicator looks like a nipple shield, I adore it. It's a Maybelline something or other. I reapply often. Far more often than is necessary. My lips look GLOR-ious.

5. It occurred to me last night that when the Postie's sister gets married next year, we'll be parents. There'll be a family photo with Postie and Child. How freakin' weird.
